Shannin first started at Tarawera Medical Centre as one of the Waiariki Nursing Students who regularly pass through as part of their training. She stood out for her eagerness to learn, open, caring personality and obvious joy she got from her work. We offered her a permanent position and are still not quite sure who was more excited when she accepted. She completed her final exams with ease and is now studying further while working with us. She is a very skilful surgical assistant and helps with may of the Skin Cancer operations we do and is developing skill as a dermoscopist and a good understanding of the theory behind skin surgery including flaps and grafts.
Shannin has 2 children, so like all the doctors at the medical centre, understands first hand the reality of caring for children
